HIQA (Regulatory)

The Health and Quality Authority in Ireland has a statutory remit for ensuring compliance with their National Standards for Residential Services for Children and Adults with Disabilities across the disability sectors in Ireland, whether they are run by public, private or voluntary bodies or organisations.

WALK works towards compliance with the standards set out in this framework.

HIQA makes reports from individual service providers publicly available on their website shortly after inspections in any of the services they review.

New Directions EASI Process and Tool

As part of the annual Service Arrangement process, all day service providers are obliged to comply with the Interim Standards for New Directions.  https://www.hse.ie/eng/services/list/4/disability/newdirections/interim-standards-and-plans-to-progress-implementation-in-2016-.html

The EASI Process is completed by each Day Service location and consists of a Self- Evaluation. Gathering, evaluating and rating the evidence and developing an action plan for improvement. The purpose of the Self Evaluation is to explore and reflect with all stakeholders (people using the service, staff and local management) and to report on the effectiveness and quality of the supports being provided under New Directions. To confirm where the service is meeting the New Directions Interim Standards, to identify additional opportunities for improvement - to support continuous Improvement and to plan actions to address any identified gaps in systems and processes. In doing so, existing good practices are identified and maintained while areas in the standards requiring improvement are then addressed.
