Hannah's Beauty and Retail Sales Journey

"I am achieving one of my biggest dreams; going to college and doing Beauty and Retail Sales in Crumlin College. I hope that this will help lead me to a job in the beauty industry.

The journey towards this goal has been long with a lot of ups and a few downs. When I started in WALK I wasn’t sure if I wanted to do a beauty course or a tourism course. I looked at different options with the staff team and it was suggested that I could do some education and some work experience in the area of beauty to see if this is an area I’d really like to work in".

Patrick's achievement

"My biggest achievement of 2014 was getting into Crumlin College to achieve my goal of becoming a makeup artist. I had to take various steps to get to where I am today and prepared myself for college by doing small courses in hair and beauty. I also had to prepare myself for the interview because you need to do well in that to get into the course. Being in college means so much to me because it has always been my dream. I have grown and matured so much since I have started and made some new friends. I hope that after college I will get employed in a beauty salon or shop and be able to do nixers. I'd also like to say thanks to all the people that have worked with me, helped me to get this far and stuck by me through thick and thin."

Margaret's college days

"I enjoy going to college, I enjoy the company of other students, mostly the teachers are so welcoming and friendly. This has made me feel comfortable and want to continue to learn more so I can achieve a certificate. 2014 has been a great year for me I had discovered that I have a passion in visiting elderly living on their own and keeping them company, maybe telling each other old stories and sharing ideas, just to make them feel loved once again. It was not easy going but the staff from Walk have supported me and encouraged me to fulfill my dreams. What I can say is that, one of the most courageous things you can do is to identify yourself, know who you are, what you believe in and where you want to go".
